Hi, are you still out there? I just ran into some Basmajians in my research.
Still here! You can always reach me through my blog, below.
Basmajian is a fairly common Armenian name, I have found. What have you discovered?

My family is from Dikranagerd. I just learned about this from my Grandpa. Great grandparents escaped the holocoust, went to Egypt, but then ended up in Boston.

The Hellenistic culture during the Artaxiad Dynasty had a strong influence and the Greek language was in fact the official language of the court. Tigranes had divided Greater Armenia -- the nucleus of the Empire -- into four major strategic regions or viceroyalties. After the plunder, which included the destruction of statues and temples, the city was set ablaze. The abundant quantity of gold and silver was carried off to Rome as war booty. Lucullus took most of the gold and silver from the melted-down statues, pots, cups and other valuable metals and precious stones.flash player free download

When he talked of Dikranagerd my father’s eyes vanished into a town sometimes Turkish, sometimes Russian, history as swift as a flood, roots swept away with crops and trees, fields dissolving, everything muddied. The only permanenc —Ararat,In white caps neither growing nor breaking, awaiting some angel to deliver the landscape: the stone-faced churches, rocky fields, oxen pressed each to each for heat like dark ophans in pictures. Perhaps I would have died with history, grandparents and aunts, a whole tribe uprooted from metallic ground, hard as the heels of assassins, or the bones left by ravenous dogs
too weak to chew them.

The early history of Dikranagerd or Tigranakert will be presented by senior scholars Robert Hewsen of Rowan University, a specialist in historical geography; Levon Avdoyan of the Library of Congress, who will try to answer the questions of exactly when, where, and why was the fabled city that bears the name of Tigran the Great; and James Russell of Harvard University, who will consider the literary and historical aspects of the epic of Tigran the Great.Penny Auctions|Penny Auction Site

Tigranes, who was residing at Tigranocerta in the summer of 69, was not only astonished by the speed of Lucullus' rapid advance into Armenia but by the fact that he had even launched such an operation in the first place. Unable to reconcile with this reality for a certain period of time, he belatedly sent a general named Mithrobarzanes with 2,000 to 3,000 cavalrymen to slow down Lucullus' advance but his forces were cut to pieces and routed by the 1,600 cavalry led by @@@@, one of the legates serving under Lucullus.Audio Mastering Services |Music Mastering Services

Tigranakert quickly became a very important commercial, as well as cultural center of the Near East. The magnificent theater that was established by the Emperor, of which he was an avid devotee, conducted dramas and comedies mostly played by Greek as well as Armenian actors.Silver bullion

Also, you may want to keep in mind that there are many modern Armenians who no longer do anything traditionally, but prefer to be more creative with their weddings. IPhone Source Code

Hello Ned , This is a very interesting forum ,this is my first post and you are a great find for me :D Well as my name states that is my Armenian family name. My great grandfather came a few times to the states and finally stayed in the early twenties. That is how I understand it anyway.I have spent countless hours of research and translated many alternate spellings, along with a few pieces of info from family passed down . I do know now that my g-grandfather came from Diarbekir,so this is a most amazing post for us. I will get into more details if you'd like and hope you could share to see if there is a connection? Warm Regards ,Christina
