Hello,

I am looking for the parents of my grandpa. His name was Garabed or Karabet. I do not know if he had a brother or sister. I believe that he lived before 1920 in Istanos. Istanos is a small town near Ankara. I shall be very glad if you will write to me. Every little informaton will help me further.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Samuel. What's the surname?
Where do you live now?

I think you already wrote some years ago in my post. My family is also from Istanos/ Stanoz. I'm armenian from my mom side, her father, my grandpa, was Garabed Betlehemian (also written as Petlehemian) born in 1914. He was son of Maryam Bulbulian and Kaloust Petlehemian, he was very important in Istanos (although not sure what his function in Istanos was), and was one of those killed in 1915
My mom's mother, my grandma was also from the same village. she is 95 and still alive, her name is Arshalois Matosian born in 1920 and was daughter of Gulynia Hadji Aharonian (or something like that) and Boghos Matosian (killed in 1921).
Both families escaped first to Istanbul but later on they moved to Argentina, were I was born.
Part of our family also moved to France, I think to Marseille and other places which I'm not sure. My grandparents lost all contact with them.

Istanos was a little village with more than 3100 armenian habitants and existed until 1928 then it disappeared completely, was erased as it never existed. Although, parts of the cemetery can be found, the old bridge, there's nothing else.
There is a book written by Alice Odian Kasparian about Istanos. "History of the Armenians of ANGORA and STANOZ"

As far as I was told, most of the Stanozi moved to France, as someone mentioned to me in one of the posts I published, to Issy les Moulineux in Paris. Others to US, and very little like my grandparents, to Argentina.

Hope this can help a bit.

Thanks
Ana
