The festival is an 800-year-old Armenian tradition of harvest celebration, similar to the American Thanksgiving, dating back to the old country. Taking place in September, the celebration brings together music, food, and of course prpoor, which is the molasses that forms when grape is brewed.flash player free download

As suggested earlier, the Armenians in America organized themselves in groups to meet their material and social needs. Most Armenian immigrants knew little or no English and had little or no money.Watch NFL Games Live Compatriotic and charitable societies sprung up in almost every town.

Most Armenians who came to America in the nineteenth and early twentieth century came from the Armenian heartland, central and Eastern Anatolia,Fifty Shades of Grey |Fifty Shades |50 Shades of Grey which had fallen under the sway of the Ottoman Empire.

Fresno may be best known to many Armenians as the birthplace of William Saroyan—the great Armenian-American author. A number of Saroyan related organizations,Manuka Honey Benefits | Manuka Honey for Acne| Buy Manuka Honey such as the William Saroyan Society, are still based out of Fresno.

I believe I asked someone, possibly my mother, why people called me that. I was told it was because Armenians were some of the first immigrants to Fresno,Artist Biography| Music Download|Ringtones which made them similar to American Indians. I didn’t think it was so bad, but people used it as a racial slur.

Fresno has lost its place as the largest Diaspora of Armenians in the US (Glendale,Custom Kitchens |Customer Vanities |Custom Furniture CA now contains the most Armenians), it will never loose its historical Armenian roots.

My parents, although Armenian, were born here in the US,|Organic Protein Bars so they gave me an American name. My family speaks a sort of "mix" between Eastern and Western Armenian (when I ask my grandma she says "Armenian is just Armenian")Organic Protein Powder and my dad always told me as a kid that in Armenian it means Wolf.Organic Protein Shakes They never meant for it to be that way, but that's how it was.
