Place name near Smryna - I think
Hi Folks, I've just been given an 115 year old photograph of, I presume, the family home. It's labelled the house @ Kikaghatz. (Or in another labelling it's Kirkaghatz). I don't know whether the word is Turkish or Armenian or even if the translation is correct. I'm assuming it's near Smyrna (Izmir)....

Re: Help please with a location of a church in Smyrna in 18
Thanks but nothing comes up for Smyrna, Izmir or St. Stepanos.
Perhaps all the info went up in the fire. Although I have now found some old photographs on the Internet, since my posting.

Help please with a location of a church in Smyrna in 1892.
Hi Folks, My great grandfather, Der Haroutyoun YEGHIVARTIAN, was in 1892, ordained at the 'Kourou Cheshme' church by Bishop K. Hovhannesian. Kourou Cheshme, may be Kourou Cesme, I'm presuming in Izmir (Smyrna). Could it be in the Basmane district? Der Haroutyoun YEGHIVARTIANm was born, in Smyrna, on...

Carpet making in Smyrna 1745 - 1860
Please can anyone give me some help in finding information on the Armenian carpet weaving industry, including dye making, in Smyrna say from 1745 to 1860. I have no Armenian so must be in English.
Thanks
Mike
Thanks

DARPINIAN > GALSTIAN
I am looking for any family that may have changed it's name from DARPINIAN to GALSTIAN. It's possible that the family, say about a 100 years ago, moved to Greece. Another rumour is that a "cousin" and two sons went to Switzerland. The family may have ended up in Los Angeles, California. An...

Hi From a genealogical point of view you could argue that there better ways than Church Records to track down the living. So you could say that young records -say under 80 years - could be ignored, for the moment. Official records, i.e. certificates, and press reports, telephone books and the Intern...

Church Records
As birth, marriage and death certificates are likely to be unavailable, some effort, I suggest, needs to be directed to locating Church registers around the world. I would venture that many Churches probably have their own websites. The process can then be started to find ways of copying and transla...

YEGVARTIAN from Smyrna
Hi Folks, Well thats one way the name could be translated, also: YEGWARTIAN, EGDVARDIAN, etc. I'm told the family left the village of "Yegvart", just north of Yerevan around 1745, and moved with many others across the Ottoman Empire, now Turkey, to Smyrna, now Izmir. I believe they were in...
