Re: Armenian DNA Project at FamilyTreeDNA.com
Dear Peter, I have received my FF results today - so excited, over a month earlier than anticipated (not sure why)! According to the population finder, here's my Armenian heritage: Middle East Iranian, Adygei, Druze 27.60% ±3.93% No Armenian matches yet though. I will keep you updated and please let...

Re: Armenian DNA Project at FamilyTreeDNA.com
Dear Peter, Thank you for that information, I was unaware of the Houshamadyan Project - I'll add that to my list of resources. I've thought about talking my uncle into going forward with the Y-STR test (and I could handle his account, since he's not all that interested - I'm the self-appointed famil...

Re: Armenian DNA Project at FamilyTreeDNA.com
Have just ordered the FamilyFinder DNA test from FTDNA. As my Armenian heritage comes from my maternal grandfather and my maternal line is Eastern European not Armenian I am unable to join the current project. I was wondering though if there is any prospect in adding in a FamilyFinder component to t...

Hoegetzi, Turkey
Hi all, I am attempting to find any information about the town/village of Hoegetzi - my guess is that it was in the province of Harput (as that is where the other side of my family hails from and my g-grandparents were married there). I was given a paper written by a cousin after interviewing her fa...

Re: Manzoians, Aslanians, Najarians from Keserig, Kharput
Hi dmuradian, Unfortunately I do not think it is the same Anna Aslanian. I have found the connection of Anna Aslanian since that post - she married a Chilpigian and ended up in Lowell MA and had a son named Kevork - the Chilpigians all now live in Fresno and San Mateo CA. She was older than my g-gra...

Re: Ottoman turkish script
Sophia, The Turks changed their alphabet to the latin characters after WWI. It's possible I suppose then that no one that your father spoke with in Istanbul could read the old script. From what John translated off of my papers, they were official Ottoman state papers --- basically like an ID card fo...

Re: Roopenian, Bechakjian
I found a Marian Roupernian, born 1903, that came through Ellis Island on July 10, 1914. Her place of birth was Harpoot, Turkey. She was 11 years old and came on the ship "France" - departed from Le Harvre, near Marseille. It appears she came through with her mother Takoulu Roupenian, who ...

Re: Ottoman turkish script
Thanks John!
However, I do not know how to post the documents. I tried sending them to you by private message and it told me that I could not send pdfs. Should I make them jpegs and send them again?

Ottoman turkish script
I recently received copies of my great-grandparents traveling papers from Keserig, Harpoot to Marseille, France from 1909 and 1912. I also have their papers from Marseille to New York, but I (was once) semi-fluent in French, so those were no problem to translate! These papers, however, are written i...

Menzo/Menzoian
I am trying to find out the meaning of the name "Menzo". My surname is Manzoian (also spelled Menzoian), and I wanted to know if it simply means "son of Menzo" or something else. And also, what does "Menzo" mean, or is there an Anglicized version of it? Any ideas or tra...

Manzoians, Aslanians, Najarians from Keserig, Kharput
I am looking for information on these three families (Manzoian/Menzoian, Aslanian, and Najarians) from the town Keserig, outside of the city of Kharput, Turkey. Here's verified information I have: Boghos Manzoian (born 1860s), my g-g-grandfather, married Anna Najarian (born 1860s?) in Keserig and th...
