Well, I was asking about customs (practices), not costumes (clothing), but I'm very glad that you posted your link. Your dolls are beautiful.

I suspect that the men wearing the aprons are my great-grandfather's in-laws, but I can't find anything to support that idea.

I work as an admin on another web forum. When we get spammers, we delete the spam and block their IP number. They usually don't register as members, but it's easy enough to delete them if they do. In a few cases, we followed the links and found abandoned web pages that were nothing but long lists of...

Both of these names, with various spellings, can be found at ellisisland.org (or at http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/EIDB/ellis.html). Do you have any first names, dates, or towns of origin? They can also be found at verizon.com, but I don't see any in New Jersey.

What are these men doing?

Here's a picture of some Armenian men having a picnic. If anyone has any ideas about what the occasion might be, I'd be interested to hear. Two of the men are wearing aprons, and the one on the far left appears to have dough on his hands. It seems odd to me that men are doing the cooking, rather tha...

Village of Kelvonk?

Does anyone know anything about a village called Kelvonk in the province of Kharpert? I found one called Holvenk on a map, but I don't know if it's the same one.

My guess is that you'd have better luck with tracking down records in Buenos Aires and Venezuela than in Turkey. Some records may list his parents' names and/or where he was born (like citizenship papers, for instance.) A google search for genealogy argentina will bring up some resources that might ...

That's not much information to go on. What was his first name? Do you have approximate dates? Did he enter the United States? If so, there may be a record of him at ellisisland.org. The name sounds familiar, so I may have come across it in my own searches.

US Census in 1910 lists Asadour DAPANIAN, age 28, at 31 Marian Ave. in Hillsboro, NH, as a boarder in the home of Walter Garabedian. Year of immigration is listed as 1909. Names of the other boarders look like Aram Sarkisian, Sarkis Avedisian, Ohan Tatorian, Nishan Ohanessian, Harry Totian (Fotian?)...

Do you know the names of any of Zemroukht's siblings or where they came from? Have you looked at Ellis Island records for Vartanians?

That sounds like a good plan. Modifying the program is beyond my knowledge, but if you can do it, that would be great. I looked around at sourceforge, and I couldn't find anything that was designed for multiple databases with multiple groups of users. I re-installed PGV to play with it. If you're th...

Free genealogy software

OK, I'll kick this one off with a few suggestions for software. I tried one called PHPGedView, and I didn't like it very much. I forget what I didn't like about it. Now, I mostly use GeneWeb, and I sometimes use Lifelines, because it has a wide variety of report formats. Rather than enter data into ...

There's a John Aposhian, age 27, listed in the 1930 US Census in Hartford, Connecticut. He's a lodger in the home of Setrak and Christina Hatzakorzian and their sons, Paul, Martin and George. He arrived in the US in 1920. Ohanes Bozoghlanian can be found at ellisisland.org with a simple search of hi...
